On 11th September 1918 high winds were present over the North-East coast, the pilot encountered the strong winds and was forced to land near Whitby when the wind became too overpowering. The aeroplane's undercarriage was damaged and after later assessment it was deemed not worth repairing. The pilot was unhurt. He and the aeroplane were part of 510 Flight, 252 Squadron based at Redcar.
