Stedman TS-1 BGA.213 "City of Leeds" glider damaged near Kilburn.

Between 1st and 9th September 1934 a national glider "derby" meeting was held at Sutton Bank and was arranged by the British Gliding Association. Some fifty pilots had agreed to take part in contests for soaring, distance, altitude, duration and other flying. Many thousands of spectators travelled to Sutton Bank to watch the daily events. During the course of the event a number of gliders were damaged in mishaps. On Sunday, 9th September 1934 this home-built Stedman glider was flown off the south slope at 13.21hrs but seven minutes later a landing had to be made in the fields to the south. The glider struck a hedge in the course of landing and was slightly damaged. The glider was a home-built one and had only been flown for the first time in July 1934, it later received a BGA registration BGA.213 after some modifications were required.
