Scud II BGA.193 glider at Sutton Bank.

Between Saturday, 24th August 1935 and Sunday, 1st September 1935 a national gliding competition was held at the Sutton Bank gliding site, the home of the Yorkshire Gliding Club. On Sunday, 25th August 1935 this glider launched at 13.09hrs from Sutton Bank. When the pilot was making an approach to land a short time later the glider went into a spin and dived into the ground on the gliding site from around fifty feet. The glider was either owned by the Ulster Gliding Club or a club member Mr N.P.Metcalfe. It was badly damaged and the pilot sustained a broken leg and other injuries. He was taken to the Lambert Memorial Hospital in Thirsk for treatment.
