Hols-der-Teufel BGA.191 glider at Sutton Bank.
Between Saturday, 24th August 1935 and Sunday, 1st September 1935 a national gliding competition was held at the Sutton Bank gliding site, the home of the Yorkshire Gliding Club. This appears to have allowed visitors the chance to fly as a passenger in at least two of the gliders and also a few interested people to be allowed up in club gliders alone. On Saturday, 31st August 1935 the Yorkshire Gliding Club's Hols-der-Teufel glider was used by an already-qualified aeroplane pilot to attempt to qualify for his "C" gliding licence but almost immediately after launch the glider developed into a spin and crashed amongst rocks at the edge of the bank.
This glider was probably the Yorkshire Gliding Club's Hols-der-Teufel 2 glider. A mention of Holdsworth testing the "Re-built Hols 2" on 21st September 1935 is given in Sailplane and Glider magazine which must relate to repair following the mishap on 31st August 1935.
Pilot - Eugene Amable Adolphus Edward de Cadier, Baron de Veauce.
