Over the Summer of 1939 the Yorkshire Gliding Club's adult gliding instruction camp training were limited. A fatal crash at Welburn in May 1939 resulted in the use of the aerodrome for club activities being put on on hold with the club also running Cadet training camps in their place. The Club however ran an adult Instruction Camp at their Sutton Bank main site in August 1939 with a number of pilots gaining A and B Certificates. During the camp a Dagling glider crashed and was badly damaged, deemed beyond repair.
