Unidentified Slingsby T.7 Kirby Cadet I glider, damaged either Sutton Bank or Helmsley area.
On 2nd September 1937 members of the Yorkshire Gliding Club carried out gliding from the Sutton Bank gliding site. A basic account of this incident was given Sailplane and Glider magazine and is slightly unclear on where this incident occurred. It may be best here if I quote from the report, it stated "Maufe in the Grunau reached 3,300 feet and flew cross country to Helmsley. Pearson, in making a forced landing several fields away, cartwheeled and did a fair spot of damage to our Kadet I." This suggests the crash landing was made by Maufe at Helmsley, and that either Pearson then attempted to land close to him or it means it occurred a few fields away from the gliding site at Sutton Bank.
The Cadet would have been either BGA.272 or BGA.294. BGA.272 was in use by the Yorkshire Gliding Club from 25th July 1936 and BGA.294 from July 1937.
