Unidentified Slingsby Kite glider at Sutton Bank.

Over the weekend of 25th / 26th April 1936 the Yorkshire Gliding Club held a flying meeting at their Sutton Bank site. Strong westerly winds aided the flying greatly and some good flights were made. Fred Slingsby appears to have taken the Slingsby Sailplanes' Kite glider for use by club members. On 25th April 1936 the first glider into the air was the Slingsby Kite and it made a two hour long flight with it ascending up to 3600 feet, it flew over the Cold Kirby and Sutton under Whitestonecliff districts. While landing at Sutton Bank a downdraft caught the glider as it crossed Casten Dyke, this caused the glider to drop and a wingtip struck a wall causing minor damage. By this date the Yorkshire Gliding Club had two Kirby Kites, BGA.222 and BGA.258, but which one was damaged on this date is unclear.

Pilot - Mr John Charles Stuart Wortley Neilan.
