Slingsby T.5 Grunau Baby II BGA.309 glider damaged at Sutton Bank.
On Saturday, 22nd April 1939 the Yorkshire Gliding Club ran a flying meeting at the Sutton Bank site. During an afternoon flight the pilot of this glider misjudged his flying speed, lost control and the glider spun into the ground either on or close to the gliding site. The glider was badly damaged. Unfortunately the pilot received fairly serious injuries, he was treated in York County Hospital for a broken leg and rib injuries.
Pilot - Mr Leonard "Joe" Fisher, aged 30, of Sunnyside, Bradford Road, Huddersfield. Injured.
Slingsby T.5 Grunau Baby II BGA.309 was damaged in a number of flying accidents at Sutton Bank. It sustained repairable damage on 20th November 1937, 31st July 1938 and 5th February 1939 before being damaged beyond repair on 22nd April 1939.
