Unidentified glider damaged near Sutton Bank.
On Sunday, 16th April 1939 the Yorkshire Gliding Club ran a flying meeting at the Sutton Bank site that saw their Durham County Branch members attend. For most of the day the wind was too strong for flying but in the evening one of the Durham pilots got off the ground but would crash near the gliding site. The club report in Sailplane and Glider magazine states that the glider "got behind the hill", stalled and then spun into the ground. The glider was badly damaged and the pilot received a sprained ankle. The type of glider involved is not known, the Durham club did not own their own glider so were probably using a Yorkshire Gliding Club one.
Pilot - Name unknown. Minor injuries.
