At 15.15hrs on 2nd August 1989 this glider was making a competition finish to land at Sutton Bank when the pilot made a low tight circuit, he quickly selected half-landing flaps and the undercarriage down but mistook the cruise flap lever for the airbrake lever. The glider would not descend as the pilot required it to. By the time he realised this he was overshooting the airfield and the glider touched the edge of the ridge, bounced and had to become airborne again. He then landed the damaged glider in a field 300ft below Sutton Bank. This was virtually the same as a second incident two days later at Sutton Bank.
