Fairchild Republic A-10A Thunderbolt II 80-0250 damaged in the air, landed at Linton on Ouse airfield.

On 5th November 1990 an A-10 Tankbuster was flying down Eskdale on a training flight when it collided with a bird or a number of birds in the Egton Bridge area. At least one of the birds must have entered the starboard engine nacelles which resulted in severe engine damage. The large back section of the engine nacelle fell off and landed in a field in the Egton Bridge area but the pilot of the aircraft was able to fly off. He later made a safe landing at Linton on Ouse airfield. The aircraft was later repaired and it was returned to its unit; 10th TFW, based at Alconbury.

Crew - Names unknown.

I only became aware of this incident in September 2013 when Mr Neil Kendall contacted me, he witnessed this incident and was, and still is, farming the fields where the cowling fell. After the incident he contacted the police who inturn informed the MoD who sent a team out to collect the parts of the cowling.

The aircraft probably belonged to the 10th Tactical Fighter Wing, USAF based at Alconbury and to either 509th or 511th Fighter Squadrons or to a unit based at Woodbridge.
