Joseph Savy was born on 15th September 1924 at Mundare, Alberta, Canada and was the son of William Walter and Katherine (nee Radolinsky) Savy. His parents were both Polish but had emigrated to Canada. Joseph lived at Mundare until he was seven years old and then his family moved to Calgary. As a young man he worked as a porter and as a timekeeper during school holidays. From May until October 1942 he worked in the warehouses of Imperial Tobacco just prior to enlisting for RCAF service in November 1942 at Calgary. After training as a wireless operator / air gunner in Canada he was posted to the UK and eventually joined the Mooney crew. He was sadly killed in the crash at Felixkirk. He was only twenty years old.
Sgt Savy was buried at Harrogate Stonefall Cemetery on 20th January 1945 with many others involved in this accident.
