Frank Mooney was born on 13th November 1922 at Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and was the son of Bernard Richard and Elizabeth Archange (nee Ouellette) Mooney. His father was a radiologist and had worked at Edmonton General Hospital, Alberta in the 1920s and 30s. The family then moved to Vancouver, British Columbia. After enlisting into the RCAF and gaining his Wings in Canada and probably received a commission around the same time as his Wings. He was posted to the UK in 1944 and formed up with the main part of his crew at an Operational Training Unit before posting to 1659 HCU later in the year. He had acquired the nickname "Pranger" while at the Operational Training Unit suggesting that he had been at the controls of one or more aircraft when they were damaged. At the time of creating this webpage details of any other incidents he had been involved in are not yet known.
F/O Mooney was killed as a result of the accident at Felixkirk, he was twenty one years old and was buried at Harrogate Stonefall Cemetery with the funerals taking place
at 10.30hrs on 20th January 1945.
