Hudson on Liverton Moor, Liverton.

On 27th February 1942 a Hudson belonging to No.6 (Coastal) Operational Training Unit is reported to have crash landed in the area of High Waupley / Liverton Moor, an area between Whitby and Guisborough. The landing is not mentioned as such in the 6 (C)OTU record book but Hudson T9376 is listed as having sustained Minor Cat.Ac damage in a landing on this date. The 6 (C)OTU record does later mention the incident because, on 1st March 1942, because W/Co Charles Douglas Candy RAAF (0327) took up the challenge of flying Hudson "L" out of the area near Loftus following a forced landing there. No further details are known regarding the incident, or who was in the aircraft at the time of the landing.

It could well be that Hudson T9376 sustained minor damage in a landing at Thornaby on 27th February 1942 and that the aircraft was a totally different one to Hudson "L" that force landed near Liverton.
