Lakes Waterhen hydroplane at Windermere.
On 30th June 1913 a mishap occurred at Windermere after a hydroplane had just taken off with passengers on board. A female passenger raised her arm to wave at her friends and in doing so her left hand was struck by a rotating propeller just behind her, this cut off four of her fingers. She was a "lady friend of Mr Horwood, of Bolton". A newspaper report of the day states that this was not the first time the propeller of the same aeroplane had injured someone.
Pilot - Mr Herbert Stanley Adams.
Passenger - Name unknown. Injured.
This aeroplane was a copy of the earlier Avro Waterbird that was damaged in a gale on 29th March 1912. The Waterhen was built by the Lakes Flying Company. It had been transported to Hornsea Mere by 12th June 1913 where it was exhibited and flown six times with passengers during the Hornsea Horse Show held there.
