On Tuesday, 16th September 1952 this 203 Advanced Flying School aircraft was flown on an aerobatics training exercise as practice for the Battle of Britain Day celebrations display due to take place the following weekend at Driffield. The pilot made made six fast runs along Carnaby runway at 1500ft. On the seventh he then put the aircraft into a steep climb, and then dived toward ground but pulled out too late and the aircraft's belly hit the ground. As it then continued it then hit a tractor and a lorry. The pilot was killed as was a civilian standing on the lorry. A lady working in a kitchen on the aerodrome was injured when flying wreckage came through a window and struck her. Others may also have been slightly injured when aeroplane parts fell around workmen loading waggons.
