On 27th October 1950 the pilot of this No.203 Advanced Flying School aircraft was being flown in the general area around Driffield with the pilot undertaking a series of loops and rolls. While flying in cloud above 4,000 feet the pilot appears to have lost control. It was seen by a farm worker at Cottam Grange to emerge from cloud at around 4,000 feet roughly over Langtoft with the engine misfiring and clearly out of control, he watched it fall to the ground in a stubble field east of Cottam airfield and near Langtoft. The pilot was killed in the crash. The cockpit canopy was found around half a mile from the crash site and may have been released by the pilot in an attempt to get clear.
Pilot - F/O Alan Morgan Bassett RAF (2600214), aged 22. Buried Bishopwearmouth Cemetery, Sunderland (24.CC.275).
