Tiger Moth T8202 near Brough airfield.

On 16th July 1941 this aircraft was being flowm on a dual control training flight and while making a turn at low level the aircraft stalled. It entered a spin from which the pilot was unable to recover from before it hit the ground some two miles west of Brough airfield near what was recorded in the accident records as "Cradley Creek" but probably Crabley. The wreckage was recovered to Brough airfield.

Tiger Moth T8202 was built to contract 20916/39 by The Morris Motor Co. Ltd. at Cowley and was awaiting collection in April 1941. It was taken on charge by 4 EFTS at Brough shortly after and as a result of the crash on 16th July 1941 Cat.E2/FA was recorded.

Pilot - Sgt Ivan Frederick Dell RAFVR (1179321), aged 27, of Isleworth. Buried Isleworth Cemetery, Middlesex.

Trainee Pilot - LAC Cornelius George Draper RAFVR (655225). Injured.


P/O Cornelius Draper was killed on 14th October 1944 flying with 153 Squadron when Lancaster JB297 failed to return from an operational flight. He is buried in Reichswald Forest War Cemetery.
