Whitley T4267 possibly at Topcliffe airfield.

The only reference located to this incident is in W R Chorley's superb "Bomber Command Losses 1939-40" book and states that on 25th December 1940 this aircraft was destroyed by fire after a flying accident. Nothing more is known. This may or may not have been at Topcliffe, or perhaps may not even have been in Yorkshire but is added on the assumption that it was damaged then it was at it's base.

Pilot - Name unknown.

Whitley T4267 was built to contract 38599/39 by Armstrong Whitworth Ltd. at Baginton and was awaiting collection on 9th October 1940. After a short period of MU storage it was taken on charge by 77 Squadron at Topcliffe around the 15th November 1940 as a replacement for Whitley T4172 "KN-R" which was lost on 15th November 1940. On 25th December 1940 T4267 was reported as Cat.W/Burnt damaged and was written off. Z4267 was then itself replaced by Z646 which left the Armstrong Whitworth factory on 24th December 1940.
