Blenheim N3596 at Driffield airfield.

On 27th December 1940 this Blenheim sustained very minor damage at Driffield airfield although the reason for this is not known. 2 (c)OTU was using Driffield airfield while the runways were being laid at Catfoss. The book "Strong Foundations" by Simmons/Abraham quote the identity of the aircraft as Blenheim L3596, L3596 was infact a Hawker Henley allocated serial number although the aircraft was never actually built.

Pilot - Sgt Lee.

Blenheim N3596 was built to contract 588371/36 by A.V.Roe & Co. Ltd. at Chadderton and was awaiting collection in May 1940. It was taken on charge by 1(C)OTU at Silloth on an unspecified date during the summer of 1940. 'D' Flight of 1 (C)OTU was detached to Prestwick on 9th August 1940 and on 1st November 1940 'D' Flt of 1 (C)OTU transferred to 2 (C)OTU at Catfoss. The aircraft sustained Cat.M/FA damage as a result of the minor mishap at Driffield and was repaired on site and returned to the unit where it continued to operate until being destroyed in a Cat.W/FA accident when it crashed near Barmston, Bridlington with the loss of the then pilot.
