Hurricane L1717 at Church Fenton airfield.

On the 25th of October 1940 the pilot of this aircraft accidently belly landed the aircraft on the airfield at Church Fenton while he was undertaking his first training flight in a Spitfire. He apparently forgot to lower the undercarriage! He was not injured and the aircarft was soon repaired which only goes to show the robustness of the Spitfire in belly landings. It was written off on 27th November 1940 when another pilot paled out following a fire in the engine.
