Tutor K3445 at Catterick airfield.

On the 16th of April 1940 60 MU inspected the damaged Tutor at Catterick airfield, the date of the damage occuring was probably the day before. Any details of how the aircraft was damaged are not yet known, the aircraft was repaired and put back into service.

Tutor K3445 was built to contract 195190/32 by A.V. Roe Ltd, at Newton Heath and delivered to the Station Flight at Kenley on 19th March 1935, it then transferred to Oxford UAS at Abingdon on 24th June 1936 and then was transferred to 609 Squadron at Yeadon on 22nd October 1936. It moved with this unit to Catterick on 27th august 1939. 609 Squadron left Catterick on 6th October 1939 and moved to Acklington, but left K3445 behind. On 10th October 1939 it became attached to the H.Q. Pool (based at Catterick) for use by 219 Squadron. It sustained damage with Cat.M(c)/FA being recorded at Catterick in the incident detailed above and is believed to have been repaired on site and was returned to the unit. It later transferred to 46 MU at Lossiemouth (ASU) for storage and where it remained until being issued to 2 CFS at Cranwell on 14th April 1941. It was later transferred to RAFC Cranwell Pool for use by 2 CFS on 5th May 1941. On 4th June 1941 its engine cut after take off and the aircraft hit a tree on approach to making a forced landing at Fenton, Lincolnshire, sustaining Cat R/FA. On 22nd June 1941 it was dismantled and transported by road to Lundy & West Coast Airlines Ltd at Barnstaple for repair. Upon repair it was issued to 3 FTS at Spitalgate on 31st August 1941 and then transferred to 2 CFS at Church Lawford on 31st December 1941. It later transferred to 1 RFTS at Kirk Newton on 13th June 1942 but 1 RFTS disbanded on 31st January 1942 and K3445 was flown to Lundy & West Coast Airlines Ltd at Barnstaple on 2nd November 1942 and placed into long term storage. It was struck off charge on 8th January 1943.
