Spitfire at Catterick airfield?

On 7th September 1940 an unidentified Spitfire was reported to have crashed on landing at Catterick following a patrol of the North-East coastline. It's identity and the name of the pilot remain a mystery to this researcher.

The incident could relate to the loss of Spitfire R6901 which crashed into the sea off Flamborough Head on this date killing the Polish pilot P/O Walenty Krepski PAF. If so this incident needs deleting from this land-based list.
