Sopwith 1F1 Camel B7449 near Marske.

At 09.45hrs on 26th October 1918 this No.2 Fighting School aeroplane was being flown in the general Marske area on a training flight when it entered a spin while flying at around 200 feet, the pilot lost control, it turned on to it's back and nose dived into the ground. Sadly the pilot was killed.

Pilot - 2Lt William Leslie Murray RAF, aged 20. Buried Marske St.Germain Churchyard.

William Murray was born on 24th July 1898 and lived in Chiswick, London. He attended Malvern Collage, Worcestershire as a child. He was granted a commission in the Royal Flying Corps in August 1917 and transferred to the RAF when it formed in April 1918. I credit "stanwardine.com" with the photograph of him shown above.
