Sopwith 1F1 Camel B7341 near Beverley.

On 22nd May 1918 this No.72 Training Squadron aeroplane failed to recover was a spin while flying in the Beverley area, near where it was based. The aeroplane crashed in the Beverley area at 07.45hrs and the pilot was killed. The Pilot's death was registered in the Beverley district which is the only vague reference to the where the aeroplane crashed.

Pilot - 2Lt Colin Corry Bevington RAF, aged 18. Buried Brookwood Cemetery, Surrey.


Colin Bevington was born on 26th July 1899 and attended Rugby School until July 1917. He enlisted into the Royal Flying Corps and received a commission on 20th January 1918. He was then posted to No.68 Training Squadron on 2nd February 1918 then to No.72 Training Squadron possibly just days before his death.
