Bristol F.2B Fighter B1179 at Marske aerodrome.
On 26th July 1918 this No.2 Fighting School aeroplane was attempting to land at Marske aerodrome but was forced to fly an overshoot. While overshooting the aeroplane stalled, sideslipped and crashed. A fire broke out and seriously injured the pilot. He was pulled clear and was taken to hospital at Middlesbrough but died on 13th August 1918.
Pilot - Lt Dermot O'Neil Driscoll RAF, aged 27. Died 13th August 1918. Buried Richmond Cemetery, Surrey (P.2781).
Dermot Driscoll was born on 21st September 1890. He had initially served in the Middlesex Regiment before transferring to the Royal Flying Corps in Summer 1917. When the RAF formed in April 1918 he transferred and was granted the rank of Lieut.
