At 15.20hrs on 28th September 1917 this No.46 Training Squadron, Royal Flying Corps aeroplane was making an approach to land at Catterick aerodrome when the pilot turned sharply at low height to avoid a tree. The aeroplane stalled and dived into the ground. The wreckage caught fire and the pilot was killed.
