On 11th August 1917 Avro 504 7967 of No.6 Training Squadron and B.E.12 6575 of No.46 Training Squadron, both Royal Flying Corps aeroplanes and both based at Catterick collided over the general Catterick area at 10.45hrs. Both aeroplanes fell to the ground and both pilots were killed. Both pilot's inquests were held at Hipswell suggesting that the deaths occurred in this vacinity.

Oakley Browning was the son of William Browning, of 749 Rathdown Street, North Carlton, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, and the late Elizabeth Alice Browning.
