B.E.2c 4509 at Beverley.

On 9th February 1917 this No.36 Reserve Squadron, Royal Flying Corps aeroplane was being flown by a pilot on his first solo flight at Beverley. Shortly after taking off and during a turn, the aircraft did not have sufficient banking. It went into a spin into the ground and crashed near the aerodrome. The pilot was killed in the crash.

Pilot - Lt Robert Dykes Grossard RFC, aged 25. Buried Kirkpatrick-Juxta Parish Churchyard, Dumfriesshire.


Robert Grossard was the son of Robert Fraser and Wilhelmina Gibson Grossart, of Milton, Beattock, Dumfriesshire.
