Henry Farman F.20 A1176 near Catterick.

On 2nd November 1916 this No.6 Reserve Squadron aeroplane's engine was mis-firing during a flight over the Catterick area, the pilot attempted to make a low turn at sixty feet above the ground but the low flying speed caused the aeroplane to stall and it nose dived into the ground. Both airmen died the following day of their injuries.

Pilot - Sgt Ewell Eunice Daniell RFC (17745), aged 25. Died 3rd November 1916. Born Buried Old Colwyn Church Cemetery, Denbighshire.

Pilot - Cpl Jack Austin Luck RFC (1302), aged 20. Died 3rd November 1916. Buried Ramsgate Cemetery, Kent.


Jack Luck was born on 5th December 1895 at Ramsgate, Kent. He was awarded his Royal Aero Club Aviators' Certificate (Cert.No.3767) on 24th October 1916 following training at the Military School, Ruislip.

Ewell Daniell was born in Winnipeg, Canada on 27th August 1890 but had family at Old Colwyn. he was awarded his Royal Aero Club Aviators' Certificate (Cert. No.2875) on 11th May 1916 following training at The Military School, Catterick Bridge.
