Tomahawk AH912 near Dishforth airfield.
On the 16th of December 1942 a member of Dishforth's ground crew attempted to fly this aircraft and
managed to leave the ground briefly. Being untrained it appears that he knew little of how to control the aircraft in the air and it
hopped over the A1 before stalling and crashing in a field 400 yards later at 10.00hrs.
The "pilot" was killed in the crash.
(Pilot)/Fitter IIE - AC1 Arthur O Bidduplh RAF (635791), aged 21, of Woolwich. Buried Woolwich Cemetery, London.
In June 2007 air historian Mr Ken Reast showed me where aircraft crashed, he had searched for the
site years before. The site is now threatened by the A1 motorway upgrade.
