Jet Provost XN643 near Snainton, Scarborough.

Jet Provost XN643.

This aircraft crashed on 30th July 1981 near Malton Cote Farm, just north of the villages of Ebberston and Snainton. The pilot was on a solo training flight and he ejected after the flame on the engine went out and would not relight. He narrowly missed three farms before recovering to a glide where he then ejected. The aircraft then crashed into a barley field but was not badly damaged considering it was pilotless, it had flatten about an acre of Mr R Sellars barley. Two boys who were cycling up the lane nearby, they witnessed the crash and rushed to Moorsome Farm where they alerted the police. It was thought that if the pilot had stayed with the plane he would probably have been ok however, he was not to know that at the time.

Pilot - P/O Guy D Trezona RAF (8027689), aged 19, of Edinburgh - ejected. Uninjured.

The pilot left the RAF six months after this incident relinquishing his commission and transferred to the Army Air Corp where he served until March 1984. I thank him for contacting me during the early days of this website but dispite trying to re-contact him since these pages have progressed I have been unable. I would love to add his account of the incident should he see this webpage again.
Sixteen years later a civilian registered helicopter would also crash near this same farm and only metres from where the Jet Provost came down.
