Jet Provost XN588 near North Grimston, Malton.
My details about this crash are somewhat brief, on 18th May 1967 the Jet Provost dived into the ground from a height after the pilot became
disorientated in cloud, the crash made a large crater near the old railway line from Malton to Driffield. Emergency services drove down
the railway trackbed to reach the crash site, which was reported in the local newspaper to have been alongside the railway near
Lund Wood, Wharram. The pilot lost his life. He was very inexperienced having only flown a total of five hours in the Jet Provost
in total and all in the previous week.
Pilot - Midshipman Ronald Geoffrey Maxwell RN, aged 20, of Liverpool. Cremated Liverpool.
The pilot was born on 19th September 1946 and was attached to HMS Heron at the time of his death.
