On 6th April 2003 an RAF Rescue helicopter was seen in a field nex to the A19 road near Thormanby, north of Easingwold. It is believed to have landed because of mechanical trouble. The helicopter did not shed any debris in the field but remained there for some time until repairs were carried out.
