Sopwith CamelN6619 at Shipton Landing Ground, north of York.

On 20th December 1917 this aircraft was en-route from Howden airfield to East Fortune in Scotland when a landing was made at Shipton aerodrome, to the north of York. The exact reason for there this is not yet known, it could have been landing to re-fuel at the time when it was damaged. The aircraft's propeller was broken in the landing.

Camel N6619 was built to contract A.S. 7862 & C.P. 103733/17 by Sopwith Aviation Co. Ltd. at Kingston upon Thames and delivered to 10 AAP at Brooklands in December 1917 where it was tested and accepted. It was then issued to RNAS East Fortune to be delivered by air. An overnight stop at RNAS Howden was taken on 19th December and the following day it continued on it's delivery flight before crashing at Shipton. The aircraft was repaired and later issued to HMS Pegasus on 29th December 1917 but returned to Brooklands shortly after for repairs. It was then issued to RNAS Rosyth and delivered by air arriving 11th January 1918. It went to RNAS Donibristle on 8th February 1918 and was issued on the same day to HMS Renown. It was back at RNAS Rosyth by 21st February before going to RNAS Turnhouse by 6th April 1918 before being issued to HMS Inflexible on 25th July 1918. It was then transferred to RNAS Donibristle on 2nd August 1918 then issued to HMS Courageous on 27th August 1918. It was back at RNAS Rosyth on 30th August from where it was issued to HMS Campania on an unspecified date. It was issued to HMS Pegasus on 26th October 1918 and was again back at RNAS Rosyth on 31st October. It then went to RNAS Scapa which was Fleet Aircraft Repair base and storage facility. It was last recorded there on 30th January 1919.
