Halifax LW617 at East Moor airfield.
At 18.27hrs on 4th March 1944 this aircraft was landing at East Moor when it skidded on ice,
overshot the end of runway causing the port undercarriage to collapse resulting in damage to the port
undercarriage, port engines and propellers. The aircraft also suffered minor damage to the mainplane
and tailplane. The crew are believed to have escaped uninjured. This must have been a landing
following a non-operational flight as 432 Squadron did not fly operationally on this date.

Halifax LW617 was built to Contract ACFT/1808/C4/C by E.E.C. Ltd at Salmesbury and delivered directly to 432 Squadron
at East Moor in February 1944. It suffered Cat.A/FA damage in the incident detailed aboove on 4th March 1944 and
was repaired on site with repair being completed by 18th March 1944. It later transferred to 158 Squadron at Lissett
in April 1944 and was used operationally with them until 24th October 1944 when with was written off with Cat.E2/FA
damage after it overshot landing at Lissett following a training flight resulting another undercarriage collapse. This incident
will be recorded on this website in due course. The aircraft completed seven operational flights with 432 Squadron between 24th
February 1944 and 30th March 1944 but does not appear to have been allocated to any specific crew.
