At around 17.20hrs on 10th August 2003 this aircraft had just taken off from Bagby airfield near Thirsk when it encountered engine trouble, the engine was not transmitting the power to the propeller. The pilot attempted to make a forced an emergency landing in a field near the airstrip but the windmilling propeller caused drag and resulted in the aircraft loosing height faster than would normally have been expected. As the aircraft nearer the selected field for the landing the pilot noticed a wire fence in the field and lifted the nose of the aircraft to try and clear the fence, a wing dropped and the aircraft spun into the ground from around thirty feet and was damaged but the pilot escaped with minor injuries. An investigation found that the propeller was not receiving the power from the engine because of damaged drive belts.
