Gardan-GY80 G-BYME at Easingwold.
The aircraft in question. My thanks to Jim Rudland for this picture.
On 23rd August 2008 this aircraft force landed close to the Persimmon housing
estate in Easingwold where it overturned and was badly damaged at 17.50hrs. The AAIB
investigation reported that the aircraft had flown from Bagby without enough fuel being in the
tanks for to be able to complete the planned flight to Panshanger, Hertfordshire and returning to Bagby.
When the main fuel tank ran out on the return flight the pilot forgot to switch to the auxillary tank
and to restart the engine but to try and force land the aircraft in a field near Easingwold. The
aircraft struck a hedge just prior to landing and overturned but the four in the aircraft escaped injury.
The aircraft had been damaged at Bagby some years earlier.
Pilot - Name unknown. Uninjured.
