Gardan-GY80 G-BYME at Bagby airfield, Thirsk.

G-BYME. My thanks to Jim Rudland for this picture.

On 1st November 2003 this aircraft was flying in the Thirsk area when the overhead door opened in mid-flight and the pilot was unable to shut it. He then made a forced landing at Bagby airstrip but did not have time to make a good approach and on touching down the aircraft bounced before coming to a halt with a damaged propeller and nose wheel. The pilot was uninjured. The aircraft was later repaired and almost five years later it was damaged again in a more serious incident at Easingwold on 23rd August 2008 (detailed on this website).

Pilot - Name unknown, aged 50. Uninjured.

The aircraft was built in 1967, it was not repaired after the last accident at Easingwold in 2008.
