Aerotek Pitts S-2A G-BTTR at Bagby airfield, Thirsk.
On 13th February 2000 this aircraft was landing after a private flight at Bagby in a cross wind, at 15.30hrs the aircraft
touched down on the grass runway as normal but bounced back into the air after running over a bumpy part of the runway.
The aircraft then drifted slightly to the left and ended up half on the runway and half off. Unfortunately a one metre high sign post was in the way and the aircraft
struck it on its lower left wing which slewed the plane more to the left and towards a boggy part of the runway. The aircraft entered this and overturned damaging the propeller, fin and both left wings. The pilot was well restrained and was uninjured. The AAIB crash report states the sun was low in the sky and inline with
where the pilot was flying, glare affected his vision. He misjudged the drift. The warning sign was demolished but has been put up again away from the runway
Pilot - Name unknown, uninjured.
The aircraft was made in 1979 and was previously registered as N38NP.
