Cessna G-AVZU at Gristhorpe, Filey.
On 4th July 1988 the two on board this aircraft were undertaking a training flight, on board was a qualified pilot
and a trainee pilot, they had taken off from the Norfolk and Norwich Aero Club and were heading for Newcastle
when they encountered storm clouds over North Yorkshire. A force-landing was carried out near Magdalane Grange Farm, near
Gristhorpe, between Scarborough and Filey. This landing was done without damage to the aircraft. The two men awaited
the storm to clear and then attempted to take off from the
field but the bumpy nature of the field prevented them from becoming airborne before the aircraft ran through a barbed
wire fence, over a ditch and into an ajoining barley
field damaging the aircraft. Both men were uninjured and remained with the aircraft overnight before it was removed and taken back to Norwich.
The aircraft was repaired and is still believed to be flying.
Pilot - Mr Nicholas Scott, of Swanton Morley. Uninjured.
Trainee Pilot - Mr Roy Foster. Uninjured.
The recording of this incident on this website goes to prove that I may well not have every
aircraft incident listed as yet, having presumed I had them all recorded in the Scarborough area
this incident only came to light to myself in August 2006. As ever, if there are others which
do not feature on this website I would very much like to know and to have them recorded.
