Halifax at East Moor airfield.

On 21st January 1944 there appears to have been an incident at East Moor airfield while 432 Squadron mid-way through Ops to Berlin. It is thought to involve a 1666 HCU Halifax which blocked the runway and prevented the returning 432 Squadron Lancasters from landing on their return. It must a been a fairly serious incident as all 432 Squadron aircraft were diverted on return. 1666 HCU were detached from Wombleton to East Moor along with 1679 HCFlt from 18th to 30th January 1944 probably whilst work was taking place at Wombleton. It is therefore assumed that the Halifax was one of theirs but no details of the identity or the crew has yet been found.
