BE2c 1120 north of Scarborough Aerodrome.

On 14th January 1916 this aircraft was damaged following a forced landing north of the aerodrome at Scarborough, the pilot was unhurt and the aircraft was recovered to Scarborough for repair.

Pilot - FSL Alfred S Goodwin RNAS, Uninjured.


It is very likely that the pilot was one Alfred Sebastian Goodwin, he gained his aviators certificate on 5th April 1915, certificate no.1156, at the London and Provincial School, Hendon. He survived the Great War and joined the RAF Technical Branch in July 1918. By 1922 he was serving in India, he transferred to the Reserve in July 1923 and relinquished his commission on the grounds of ill health on 22nd September 1926.
The BE2c was built by Beardmore & Co. at Dalmuir and delivered to RNAS Redcar on 15th September 1915 and was then transferred to Home Defence Flight at RNAS Scarborough on 22nd September 1915. It suffered it's Cat.R accident on 14th January 1916 and was repaired and remained at Scarborough. It later suffered a Cat.W flying accident on 30th Augut 1916.
