Unidentified aircraft near Newby.

On Satuday, 9th January 1937 this aircraft was being flown to the Tees-side area when the pilot became lost in poor weather in the Scarborough area. The destination of Redcar was given in a press report for the incident although this would seem unlikely as there was no RAF airfield there in 1937. The pilot force landed his aircraft in a field alongside Hackness Road, Newby. Neither machine or pilot was damaged. On landing the pilot went to a nearby farm and telephoned his airfield to tell them what had happened. The airfield sent out another aircraft which found him and his aircraft, this second aircraft landed in the same field and later in the afternoon both aircraft took off and finished the journey without other incident. I would suggest Thornaby was the parent airfield not Redcar. The aircraft type is not known.
