On Saturday the 2nd of January 1937 two aircraft were being flown from Glasgow to Redcar, they were using a route used in ferrying, flying up the east coast of England and calling in at airfields on the way for re-fueling. whilst over North Yorkshire visibility became bad and the pilots became lost. The aircraft circled the Harwood Dale area for some time in the morning locating a place to land. A landing was eventually made in a turnip field owned by Mr Charles Turner by one aircraft. Soon after, at 13.00hrs, another landed, neither were damaged. A short time later both aircraft took off without incident and flew in the direction of Redcar where it is assumed they made without further hitch.
I have no details regarding what type these aircraft were. My information comes from the local newspaper which makes not mention of these facts.
