Kirby T.8 Tutor BGA.342 glider at Sutton Bank.

On 14th May 1938 the Yorkshire Gliding Club ran a gliding meeting at their Sutton Bank site. This Kirby Tutor glider sustained damage on landing at Sutton Bank.

Pilot - Mr P Priest.

The glider was almost certainly BGA.342 as it was the only T.8 that the Yorkshire Gliding Club had at the time, though they later had T.7 Cadet BGA.294 converted into a T.8. BGA.342 was built by Slingsby Sailplanes Ltd. at Kirkbymoorside and was delivered to the Y.G.C. in May 1938. It was almost certainly the one damaged at Sutton Bank on 14th May 1938. During WW2 it was stored and then impressed at HM542 in March 1942. It had a brief stay with the Glider Training School before moving to 63 M.U. at Carluke, then moved to Scottish Aviation Ltd. at Prestwick in March 1943. What became of it is not known.
