Slingsby T.7 Kirby Cadet BGA.246 glider at Sutton Bank.
During August 1938 the Yorkshire Gliding Club undertook glider flying and training for most of the month at their Sutton Bank site as part of their Annual Instruction Camp. Visitors would generally stay in the area and undertake gliding until receiving their various certificates. Poor weather saw the camp extended by a week to give pilots further flying time. Around the 14th August 1938 the pilot of this glider was making a landing at the gliding site when a wing dropped and it struck the ground. It pivoted around, the tail lifted into the air and it came to rest upside down. The rudder received some damage but it was repaired and was ready to fly again a few days later. It was then badly damaged on or around 18th August 1938 at Sutton Bank.
Pilot - Mr W A J Street.
The pilot was possibly a London Gliding Club member, someone with these initials was born in the Hendon area in 1913.
