Stedman TS-1 BGA.213 "City of Leeds" glider at Sutton Bank.
Ex-racehorse "Major" was ridden from Bradford to Sutton Bank over two days by Yorkshire Gliding Club member Billy Sharpe and arrived at Sutton Bank on 16th January 1938, he used Boroughbridge as an overnight stop but struggled to locate anywhere to house the horse overnight. Once at the gliding site the horse was put to work retrieving gliders and winch cables, but owing to the age of the animal was mainly employed doing the latter. The date of this incident is unclear but it appears to have been between the 19th March 1937 and the end of the month the horse had a glider land on it. Rex Stedman was attempting to land in what was described as "his" two-seater glider and trying to avoid a crowd of people he stalled the glider, unfortunately the stall occurred above the horse and the glider's wing landed on top of it. The horse became trapped though appears to have been unhurt. When the pilot came to he found the horse sitting beside him. The glider identity is quoted elsewhere as being a Kirby Kite.
Pilot - Mr Reginald Frederick Stephen Stedman.
