Hudson at Thornaby Vale

On the 11th of August 1942 this aircraft crashed just after taking off from Thornaby for a night flying exercise when it crashed. The crash location is stated as different locations in various sources, one source states "2 miles soth of the airfield", whilst another quotes "Thornaby Vale" and another quotes a reference just of the south west end of the airfields perimeter. The three on board were killed. The aircraft suffered Cat E2/burnt damage and was written off.

The aircraft was built by Lockheed-Vega at Burbank, California and purchased without contract by the B.P.C. It was delivered by ship to the UK in September 1940 and after acceptance was issued to 220 Sqdn at Thornaby in early 1941. The aircraft was transferred to the care of 6(c)OTU when 220 Sqdn moved to Nutts Corner on 9th January 1942.
