Hudson P5159 at Thornaby airfield.

On 31st May 1943 this aircraft was coming into land at Thornaby when the pilot allowed a stall to occur, the aircraft crashed onto the airfield damaging it severely.

Hudson P5159 was built to contract 791587/38 by Lockheed-Vega at Burbank, California and delivered to the UK by sea, arriving in July 1940. After assembly and acceptance at MU it was issued to 224 Squadron at Leuchars in late 1940. It transferred to 6 (c)OTU at Thornaby on an unknown date before ending up at 1 (c)OTU at Silloth. It moved back to Thornaby when 1 (c)OTU moved there in March 1943. It was then written off with Cat.E2/FA damage being recorded in the crash at Thornaby listed above.
